You Got One Life Here to Make it for the Movies

At the end of May I joined a little movie club you may have heard of called Netflix. Yes, I have become one of those gullible people who have fallen for such an simple gimmick where in you pay each month but don’t use the service. Well I will have you know… NOT I… I have been very happy with the service that Netflix has provided. Sure from time to time I get a real stinker of a selection in the mail, but hey I choose it after all. What really impresses me however is the fact that Netflix was able to see and create a market based on our society. Even 10 years ago this would have never worked. But now that everyone and their great-grandmother is connected to this little bedroom community known as the internet we have opened the floodgates. Netflix realized that Americans are lazy and don’t want to be troubled by something as pesky as a 5 min run to the video store or as annoying as a due date on our rented selection. Bloody brilliant! At least that’s how I see them. Heck they have almost run Blockbuster out of business. Now I would wager a guess that a large percentage of video rentals are online.

I don’t know where that came from… but I needed a topic for discussion.

  • We have a netflix membership too and we love it. Sure there's been a couple times that we keep the same 3 movies for 3 weeks because we don't have the time to get to them, but I figure that's part of the service we're paying for- no late fees!
I rent movies from the public library and rack up late fees on those, even (as pathetic as that is).
My latest movie recommendation is "To End All Wars" staring Keifer Sutherland. If you haven't seen it, you should- makes you think.
